This course is designed to give you a good grounding to become a competent paddler, aware of the important characteristics of the river. It is also designed to make you aware of your own abilities. You will learn the fundamentals of manoeuvring a kayak, white-water dynamics, and river safety as well as related paddling and bracing strokes.
Course will be running for two days. Day one will start gently with flat water work going through basics; vet exit, T-rescue, sweep stroke, straight line paddling and low brace. Mid-day is left for a quick lunch after which practice on the river will follow; swimming, peeling in and out of eddies, ferrying and s-turns, rolling in flat and moving water...After dinner there will be a presentation on water reading and river safety as well as an informative kayaking video. Day two will be an intense practise on the river and lots and lots of strokes.
The course will take the whole of Saturday and Sunday. You need to bring your own camping equipment. Food and beverages are also not provided.
Min. age to attend a course would be 16 years old. Anybody younger should be confident, responsible and independent to sleep in the tent and follow the instructions.
This is a weather dependant activity and it will not take place if the weather is particularly poor. The course will be rescheduled in that event.
This course is a two day, one night experience.
Numbers on the day will vary.
Please bring enough sporty gear since you will get very wet. Swimming costume and a towel, sunblock and sunglasses are essential, as well as a warm sweater or windbreaker for the chilly night. All other equipment will be supplied.
