The Experience
Tandem skydiving is a first class way for you to experience the thrill of freefall and serenity of a four-minute parachute ride with minimum training. On your tandem jump, you will be attached to your Tandem Master under a parachute built for two. After a short briefing, you are ready to climb to 10 000ft. Your Tandem Master will take care of the details while you enjoy the freefall and the parachute ride.
No comprehensive ground school is required for a tandem skydive. A Tandem Instructor will brief you on the do's and don'ts prior to the jump. You will be told what to expect and how to get the most from your tandem experience.
Vital info
Maximum weight is between is 100 kg and the minimum age is 16. (These restrictions depend on the location booked). Under 18s must be accompanied to the venue by an adult and must have a disclaimer signed by a parent or guardian. You must be in good health to skydive and may be asked to complete a full medical declaration when you book a date. No drinking is alowed before your jump. Please note that video footage of your jump is not included. Your jump can be recorder and DVD footage purchased at additional cost, please specify at the time of the booking.
The Weather
Skydiving is a weather dependent activity and it is crucial that you call the venue or centre for a weather check before setting out. If your jump is cancelled due to the weather it will be re-booked on an alternative date.
Session Length
The duration of this experience varies and is dependent on a number of factors such as the weather and the number of participants on the day of your booking. As a guide your training and jump will last approximately one hour but you may be at the centre for much of the day.
Numbers
Your training may be shared, your jump will be on a one-on-one basis with your Tandem Master.
Spectators
Spectators are welcome and are advised to bring a camera and binoculars to capture the best of your experience.
Dress code
We suggest that you wear comfortable clothing, flat soled shoes and bring a sweater as it can get cold on the airfield.
Availability
Most centres operate on weekends and some operate on selected weekdays. Please note that weekends are particularly busy and should be booked at least 4-6 weeks in advance.
Other information
A tandem skydive is ideal for those who want to make a parachute jump "just to see what it is like". Upon booking you can request cameraman to join you on your tandem jump to record your adventure on a video at additional cost of approximately R500 (depending on your chosen venue). Please specify upon booking.
